As Dawn approached on the last day of 2011 at Kioloa Beach, the orange and purple colours in the sky looked spectacular and I spotted this great reflection of the orange sky off the sand as the waves washed out.

Blue Sea
More from the morning at Kioloa Beach Set that I’ve been posting. I really loved the colour of the sea, the colour of the sky, and the contrast of the pine trees.

Footprints in the Sand
What an original title! These couple of photos were quickies taken at Kioloa Beach on the 31st December 2011. I liked the structure in the sand and the contrast.. in hindsight, I would’ve preferred to position myself so the footprints lead AWAY from me not towards me.. Anyway

A Lonely Fisherman and his Boat
It was the last day of 2011, and I was up early to photograph Comet Lovejoy and the beautiful sunrise at Kioloa Beach. The beach was completely empty, except for a fisherman and his lonely boat… and 1 bird

Pre-Dawn Star Trails at Killcare Beach
In 2012, I want to do some more photography – especially in the lead up to my holiday to Cairns and Uluru in November. And I’m off to a nice start, with some star trails captured in the pre-dawn sky at Killcare Beach on the NSW Central Coast.

Comet Lovejoy and the Emu from Kioloa Beach
I’d been mostly thwarted by clouds in my attempts to view and photograph Comet Lovejoy leading up to christmas. It wasn’t until the last day of 2011 that I was able to get up early and head out to photograph the comet from our holiday place at Kioloa Beach, which by now had risen higher in the sky, grew a long tail that was almost 30 degrees long, but had also faded considerable compared to the brightest views from the 24th-26th December.

Tree at Night at Kioloa Beach
While doing a morning shoot on the last day of 2011 at Kioloa Beach, I noticed some nice tree structure above me and pointed the camera directly upwards to capture the stars and tree. It turned out ok

The Night Sky over Kioloa Beach
On the last morning of 2011, I headed out early to capture some images of Comet Lovejoy and the night sky over Kioloa Beach. Here are the first of the shots.

Clouded Comet Lovejoy Timelapse
This timelapse of a clouded Comet Lovejoy was taken this morning, 24th December from just after 2am until about 4:30am.
I was there with my friends Andrew and Rod, and the cloud continued to tease us and never fully revealed the comet. It just sat right over the wrong spot! Very frustrating. But the timelapse turned out great

Images of Comet Lovejoy (C/2011 W3) – December 22nd
Comet Lovejoy (C/2011 W3) has turned out to be a magnificent comet. Discovered by Terry Lovejoy, an amateur astronomer and comet hunter from Queensland, it had a close encounter with the Sun and wasn’t expected to survive.
But survive it did – and in a major way. It’s now formed a tail that’s over 10deg long and is visible naked eye in the pre-dawn Eastern sky.
