In the From the Vault series, I feature an older image which hasn’t been seen here before and I talk about the capture and processing and hopefully highlight why this image is special to me.
The feature image in From the Vault this week is from a Coffs Harbour Sunrise series. These images were taken on a family holiday up at Coffs Harbour in October 2006. I woke early and headed out to the jetty at Coffs Harbour before dawn and what started as a fairly drab and grey early morning, turned into something special as the clouds started to part and allow the sun to reveal some brilliant colours.

The feature image above was taken with my Canon 350D and stock 18-55mm lens (I didn’t have my Sigma at this stage). The lens was set at 22mm, f/22, and the shot was 1/3s exposure @ ISO100. Processing included contrast and saturation adjustments only.
The next image in the set is from on the wharf itself. It’s such a beautiful location for photography.
Blue Morning
This image was taken at 35mm focal length, f/29 and was a 1.6s exposure @ ISO100. The RAW was processed in Raw Shooter Premium to give a boost to the saturation, add shadow contrast, reduce highlight contrast, adjust white balance (to give the blue hues) and cropped slightly top and bottom for a more panoramic view.
The last in the set is of the wharf/jetty itself and was processed to give a misty/foggy feel.
The Wharf
This image was at 22mm focal length, f/22, 1/2s exposure @ ISO100. Processing included crop top and bottom (mostly bottom) for a panoramic effect, and mainly contrast adjustments to give the old style foggy feel. A film grain style filter was applied in photoshop as well to add some noise.
