Announcing the Southern Sky Calendar 2014 iPad App!
Hi everyone. I’m pleased to announce that my Southern Sky Calendar 2014 is now available as a fully-functioning iPad app! It features 150 of my beautiful images of the night sky over the Australian landscape as a backdrop to your essential everyday and Astronomy calendars.
It’s available to buy in the App Store, depending on where you live. Simply search for “Mike Salway” or “Southern Sky Calendar” in your iPad App Store.

These apps have all the features of the regular iPad Calendar, with extras such as moon phases, eclipses, conjunctions, occultations and meteor showers! The apps are fully compatible with the iPad calendar, so that appointments and events can easily be transferred both ways. The apps also include numerous images that can feature as background to the calendar pages or can be viewed separately or saved to your photos. It’s worth having each for the photos alone! Other features:
- Daily time line featuring rise and set times of the Moon and planets.
- Special Moon chart with terminator line marked for the present day.
- Nightly moon phases on month view
- Summary of the year indicating best time to view the planets.
- Monthly Star maps show sky to the East, West, South and North, designed for 35° south latitude/ 45° north.
- “Red letter days” remind of the most prominent ten or so events for the year.
- Additional Star Maps show the planets in the pre-dawn and post-sunset sky, especially showing interesting conjunctions of the planets with the Moon.
