The two brightest planets in our Solar System, Venus and Jupiter, shining brightly like beacons in the sky as they joined for a conjunction in March 2012. The Sunset colours and clouds in the sky complete the scene in what was a stunning dusk and sunset.
Road to the Milky Way
I had an idea of a picture in my mind – all I needed was clear skies and the type of foreground I was after. After driving around Yarramalong, Kulnura and Somersby for a couple of hours, searching for the right location and waiting for clear skies, I had almost given up and started heading home when I came upon a private road that seemed to clear at the end.
Good Morning Killcare!
It was a good morning at Killcare, on the 4th January 2012 when I captured various nightscapes and seascapes during the pre-dawn and dawn skies. Here’s a selection of new images from that session.
Venus, Jupiter and the ISS over Tuggerah Lake
Last night, 13th March I was able to capture Venus, Jupiter and the International Space Station transiting just past the conjunction of the planets. It was a magnificent sight as my daughter Eliza and I watched the show over the serene Tuggerah Lake at Long Jetty.
Venus and Jupiter Conjunction at Gosford Waterfront
The Venus and Jupiter Conjunction during March 2012 is progressing nicely, as the pair of planets get closer together each night until around the 15th March, then slowly drift apart again. This image of the conjunction was captured last night on the 12th March 2012 at Gosford Waterfront.
Killcare Beach Star Trails
I had two cameras running on the 4th January 2012, when I was at Killcare Beach capturing the Emu and Comet Lovejoy. I’ve already posted the first star trails result, Pre-Dawn Star Trails at Killcare Beach, and here is the second one – captured with the Sigma 17-70mm lens @ 17mm, ISO1600.
The Emu and Comet Lovejoy at Killcare
On the 4th day of 2012 I headed out to Killcare Beach to try and capture the last gasps of Comet Lovejoy as it was fading from the pre-dawn sky.
Pre-Dawn Star Trails at Killcare Beach
In 2012, I want to do some more photography – especially in the lead up to my holiday to Cairns and Uluru in November. And I’m off to a nice start, with some star trails captured in the pre-dawn sky at Killcare Beach on the NSW Central Coast.
Comet Lovejoy and the Emu from Kioloa Beach
I’d been mostly thwarted by clouds in my attempts to view and photograph Comet Lovejoy leading up to christmas. It wasn’t until the last day of 2011 that I was able to get up early and head out to photograph the comet from our holiday place at Kioloa Beach, which by now had risen higher in the sky, grew a long tail that was almost 30 degrees long, but had also faded considerable compared to the brightest views from the 24th-26th December.
Tree at Night at Kioloa Beach
While doing a morning shoot on the last day of 2011 at Kioloa Beach, I noticed some nice tree structure above me and pointed the camera directly upwards to capture the stars and tree. It turned out ok
