I won the 1001 Extraordinary Experiences Competition!

I have some amazing news!! :) :) :)

Earlier this year, I entered the Tourism Western Australia Facebook competition called ‘1001 Extraordinary Experiences‘. You had to submit an image taken in Western Australia via their Facebook page, and describe the extraordinary experience you had.

I submitted just one image, the Arching Milky Way Over the Bungle Bungles, and I described my experience:

Photographing the Bungle Bungles at night, lit by the crescent Moon with the Milky Way arching overhead. It was an amazing experience, even better that I could share it with others on the tour group. Pristine dark skies and amazing unique landscapes – it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I’d forgotten all about it, until I received a call in early April to tell me that I was one of the 5 winners!!!!!!

I haven’t been able to tell anyone for a while, until Tourism WA announced the winners themselves which they did today via their Facebook page.

The prize is a holiday package back to WA to the value of $10,000! So amazing, so unbelievable. And this time I get to take my family!

It’s just been an incredible 12 months. Winning the Ken Duncan Photo Awards competition which saw me take an unbelievable 2 week journey around the Kimberley with Ken Duncan, to then use a photo taken on that trip to win another competition back to WA – mind blowing! :)

Kate and I are still finalising our itinerary, but it’s looking like we’ll head over there in the September school holidays and travel up the Coral Coast, to see Monkey Mia, Ningaloo Reef, Kilbarri NP and more. It’ll be quite a different holiday than the Kimberley, as this one will be focused on our family and not just me and purely photography – but I hope I still get the opportunity to take some great photos over there again.

Thanks for reading!
