This is it! The last of my Sydney at Dawn series, this photo was taken on the morning of the 13th May from Observatory Hill, looking over towards North Sydney. The lights looked lovely in the pre-dawn light, so captured this HDR image of it. I know it looks a bit cartoony, that’s the effect I was after with this shot.
Sydney at Dawn – International Passenger Terminal
Coming to the end of the Sydney at Dawn series now, this photo was taken on the morning of the 5th May. It’s the International Passenger Terminal down at Circular Quay – where all the big cruise ships dock when they bring passengers to Sydney. I thought it looked nice in this pre-dawn morning, so captured this HDR image of it.
Sydney at Dawn – The Sydney Harbour Bridge
Watching the Sydney Harbour Bridge transform from night into day is quite a sight; in the pre-dawn night, it’s mostly quiet – only a few cars, and the glowing lights on the bridge and pilons stand out against the dark sky. As dawn approaches, the sky brightens, the number of cars on the bridge increase and soon the hustle and bustle of the city take over from the tranquil scene only 30 minutes before.
Sydney at Dawn – The Majestic Sydney Opera House
The magical, majestic Sydney Opera House – beautiful, inspiring and so very photogenic. These images were captured on the morning of the 18th May 2011, and are part of the Sydney at Dawn series, where I feature some pre-dawn and dawn images captured during the month of May 2011.
Sydney at Dawn – The Full Moon Setting
When the Full moon is seen close to the horizon, it can look magnificent – especially when there’s trees, or mountains, or buildings to give it context. The Moon can look huge, thanks to the well documented Moon Illusion.
Unfortunately it’s difficult to capture the same “feeling” of the massive moon in a photograph; normally when you photograph it, it looks tiny – nothing like what it seemed with the naked eye. However with a long enough focal length, and the right foreground interest that you can also throw into focus, you can attempt to capture that “moon illusion” and re-live that impression of a huge Moon.
Sydney at Dawn – Artificial Light Partially Eclipses Natural Light
Without being too deep and philosophical, in this image I’ve captured Natural and Artificial Light together, with the Moon being partially eclipsed by the lamp post. Unfortunately for those of us living in or near the city, artificial light dominates the night sky and it’s all but impossible to see any stars.
Sydney at Dawn – Triple Panorama Treat
During some early morning photo shoots during May, I captured some of the landmarks of our famous city in a beautiful pre-dawn and dawn light.
They’ll form part of a Sydney At Dawn series, and the first in the series are 3 stunning panoramas, all captured on the 18th May 2011, all in slightly different lights as dawn fast approached.
Planetary Conjunction Shuts Down the Sydney Harbour Bridge in May 2011
On May 13th 2011, the closest alignment of the conjunction of Venus, Mercury, Mars and Jupiter got lots of media attention. I was even interviewed for the local paper! But noone expected the beautiful alignment of planets in the sky on that Friday morning to close down the Harbour Bridge for over 2 hours! But that’s what happened!
Results from my First Wedding Shoot – Tanya and Marvin
Back in late January, I posted about Preparing for my First Wedding Shoot, and finally it’s time to follow it up with the actual results from the wedding! The wedding was in early February but a combination of very busy weeks and weekends meant it took longer than I’d hoped to finally get through and [...]
Preparing for an Upcoming (and First) Wedding Shoot!
UPDATE: Results of my First Wedding Shoot – Tanya and Marvin. I’ve never really done much people photography. The odd family photo here and there but my main interest and passion has been landscape photography and of course astrophotography. So you can imagine it came as quite a shock to me when a few weeks [...]
