This is my first deep space image in about 6 months, taken at the Pony Club in March but only just got around to finish processing it.
I’m quite happy with the image, but there are parts of it that are very messy – especially the background with diagonal noise issues from stacking (dark frames), and there was some horizontal banding in the dim areas which I haven’t been able to figure out where it’s coming from.
Still, it’s the first light image for my modded 40D and it was nice to be out amongst the stars again and have something to process and post.
The horizontal banding could’ve been any number of things including the camera, the USB, the power, the darks, the flats. I was able to remove most of it with a Noel Carboni action in Photoshop. I’ll try re-stacking without the darks, look at the raw lights etc to see where the problem was introduced.
The image is 50 minutes of lights @ ISO800, with 10x 100s and 10x 30s exposures to mask the core of M42, taken with my ED80 and modded 40D on the EQ6. Processed in ImagesPlus and Photoshop.
Thanks for looking.
